Favorite iPhone Apps #2: PhotoFX and Cropulator
Totally going to blow my cover here but… these two apps are a must have for anyone who takes a lot of photos with their iPhone. I don’t own another digital camera, so right now this is the only one I’ve got, and I take a fair amount of pics with it. The camera is decent for a phone camera, but has its inherent problems like digital noise, lack of exposure adjustment and no focus or zoom.
Cropulator does what you’d expect, it crops and rotates images. That’s all it does, and it does it really well. From there, I typically open PhotoFX, which offers a TON of color effects, which, for the most part, aren’t terribly gimmicky. The newer versions support a ‘layer’ feature so you can stack effects together. I’ll typically use it to desaturate images/boost contrast, add a soft blur, or add artificial focus to images.
What’s awesome: PhotoFX is really stable and offers some really outstanding looking effects, and for things like gradients and blurs, even allows you to specifically position where the effect is applied.
What’s not so awesome: The interface is a little laggy at times, when adjusting sliders and whatnot. It’s generally usable most of the time, but annoying to wait for it to catch up.
Above is a before and after pic I just took, all edited on my phone. Original on the left.
