Mac Lion No Ethernet [SOLVED]

Why am I posting this here? So for when it happens again I know how to fix it.

The problem: Macbook Pro with clean install of Lion not recognizing that there is in fact, an ethernet port on the computer. Going to system preferences, network settings, ethernet simply vanished as a selectable option.

How to fix: This odd solution, shut down the computer, hold SHIFT + CTL + OPTN and the power button for 5+ seconds. Let go, and press power. Lion detects the ethernet port.

Ramblings from a near 30-year-old:

Inspired by my bro Steve’s 30 year birthday recollection post, I thought I’d leave some similar thoughts in a more haphazard fashion.

Things I learned in life over the past 29+ years:

#1 - Don’t give a fuck about the small stuff. Life’s too short, don’t let stupid shit eat away at you.

#2 - Do what makes you happy. I’m single. I live alone with my dog. I play a lot of video games. I love my job. I’m pretty content with all of this.

#3 - Don’t let the turkeys bring you down (quote from steve brule). Objectively listen to criticism, but stand up for yourself if it’s bullshit. If it’s not, try to use it constructively and make positive changes.

Influential people (in no particular order):

Kat - While distance kept us apart, she gave me some of the happiest moments of my life and was my best friend for several years.

Dave - Taught me self discipline and that nothing is too difficult if you work hard for it. While this was specifically in regards to actually getting good at playing/practicing music, I’ve taken this lesson and applied it to other areas in life.

Steve, BC, Brian, Steven, Ryan, Dave, Kimbo, Erin (basically League and Tomorrow is Forever) - We have everything we need right here. When you do what you love with people you love, you can do anything, even if at times you want to strangle those people :)

Sara - Taught me never, EVER to move in with someone you’re dating unless you plan on marrying that person. While in the end, we had an amicable parting of ways, my self confidence was destroyed, then built back up. We had ups and downs, and in some odd way I learned to not take bullshit, and call people out on it when they are dealing it.

My parents and brother - No matter what happens, family is always there for you, and I am always there for them.

The rest of the Fredonia crew (Kaitlyn, Nick, Andy, Joshua and everyone else) - So many good times, too numerous to recall. “UH ANDY” “Elliottttt I want to register for your classssss” someone needs to start a fredonia quote tumblr.

The SuperGroup - Re-enforced that anything is obtainable if you dedicate yourself to it.

Sue - I will regret everything that happened here forever, even if she said she forgave me. I’ll never forget, and will forever be sorry for basically being a douche to her.

Thom - I feel like I have to say something about him. He’s the reason I’m where I am today, so for that I am grateful. I wish I could say that I was sorry about our falling out, but I’m not, because in the end, we were in a bad situation together, and in my opinion, he tried to bail on his responsibilities, at the expense of his friends.

My Final Fantasy crew - I really do consider a lot of them friends. Might not know their real names, or much bout them in the real world, but at the end of the day (figuratively and literally) we have a lot of fun together, and lots and lots of “lulz”. They give me a way to take my mind off things, and I really do enjoy making them laugh through my ridiculous antics…. no matter how many times someone emote-punts me.

Jenniferrrrrrrr - Best friend for most of college. Her work ethic was awe inspiring. I could never in a million years have predicted what happened at the end of college.

Matt - Really the most influential teacher/mentor/colleague ever. He wasn’t afraid to push boundaries, ruffle some feathers, or generally do whatever it took to do something he believed in. He gave me an unbelievable opportunity my first year out of college, and showed me both how to push my creative limits, and also capitalize on opportunities when they present themselves.

Mari - Whenever I think about Mari I can’t help but smile. Too many moments to recall that were full of ridiculousness, I’ve probably laughed and cried more with her than any other person ever. We shared a lot of unique adventures together that I’ll always remember.

Daisy - Yes, my dog. I swear this is a person in an animals body. She’s there to wake me up everyday, she’s on her best behavior when I’m upset, and she’s a butthead when I’m not and not paying enough attention to her. BFF for sure.

The Artlab crew (Robin, Graham, Howard, Josk etc) - Reminds me that even though the rest of the world might look at us a little differently, we all “get it” and understand each other :)

I guess I’ll end this post with two quotes form Forrest Gump. “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” And also, “Shit happens.”
